Project Summary

The Kajiado health-system proposal at a glance.

The current plan combines the detailed healthcare model in the full proposal with the revised May 2026 funding and facility figures.

The need

Kajiado County covers approximately 8,500 square miles and has more than 1.3 million residents. Long distances and limited facilities create barriers to maternal care, emergencies, chronic-disease management and prevention.

The vision

A three-tier system of outreach, five rural facilities and the Ilbissil hospital will bring care closer to families.

The plan

The current estimated project total is approximately $5,654,000, implemented in phases.

  • Phase 1 — $1,300,000: land for three new rural clinics and the hospital, wells, fencing, landscaping and community outreach.
  • Phase 2A — $1,555,000: Ilbissil Community Hospital construction, staff housing and guest housing.
  • Phase 2B — $984,000: hospital equipment, health information system and staffing.
  • Phase 3 — $615,000: construct, equip, staff and open three rural health centers.
  • Phase 4 — $1,200,000: five years of operating and community-outreach support.

Sustainability

The system is designed to move toward sustainability through affordable patient-paid services and other local revenue streams, with a goal of sustainability in about five years.
