Medical leadership / Meet Dr. Daniel

A physician serving the community that raised him.

Dr. Daniel ole Koitatoi is the founder and visionary Kenyan leader of Woods Roots of Health. His path from a traditional Maasai childhood to medicine shaped a practical vision: a connected health system led in Kenya and built around the needs of South Kajiado County.

As a physician and OB/GYN resident at the University of Nairobi, Daniel brings clinical experience, local knowledge and a lifelong commitment to compassionate care. The beaded stethoscope reflects the meeting of those two worlds—medical leadership rooted in Maasai identity and community.

Our story / Community roots

Generations of relationship. A vision led from Kenya.

Gary and Judy Woods knew Daniel from infancy while serving among the Maasai and helped open educational opportunities for him. As a boy, Daniel dreamed of becoming a doctor. He pursued that calling, eventually became a physician, and developed a vision for a connected health system serving his own community.

Daniel’s family and Maasai roots remain central to his personal commitment to the hospital project. He chose the name Woods Roots of Health in honor of the Woods family’s long relationship with him and the Maasai community. Ventures of Grace supports this Kenyan-led vision—with humility, enduring friendship and hope.

Medical leadership / Partnership

Kenyan leadership. Long-term partnership.

Gary Woods with Dr. Vincent Mutiso and Dr. Daniel ole Koitatoi. Dr. Mutiso is a board member and a senior orthopedic leader in Kenya.

Their partnership brings together enduring friendship, senior Kenyan medical leadership and Daniel’s community-led vision for Woods Roots of Health.
